This intimate restaurant is a favorite among romantic diners. Live guitar music escapes into the night, while the gorgeous hillside setting is equaled by excellent, classic cuisine. The outstanding service includes personal, table-side preparation of some items, such as a traditional Caesar Salad and the dramatic, flaming Crepes Suzette. Many tourists stumble into the "Little Italy" district by accident, but it's well worth a trip to discover this traditional Southern Italian restaurant. Mimmo, the proprietor, watches over every detail and the chefs happily cook dishes to order. The homemade Bruschetta bread is excellent. The Gamberi al Pesto combines succulent shrimp with a garlic and basil paste. There are also plenty of pizzas of various dimensions and toppings. The interior is air-conditioned complemented by a pleasant outdoor terrace. Dress is resort-casual.

Since its opening in 1987, this restaurant has boasted about offering the best barbecue in Mexico. Local Mexican specialties are featured; but, most patrons flock here for the Chicago-style pizza and the richly flavored barbecue items, especially the meaty, succulent ribs. Although diners typically find a wait to be seated, the big-screen televisions in the bar area (usually tuned to major sporting events), create a party atmosphere. The dress code is casual, but flip-flops and cutoffs are not allowed.

This long-established restaurant has been serving up Yucatan specialties for many years. Need some spice to wake up your morning? Try the Huevos Motuleños: tortillas bursting with lively eggs, ham and bright green peas. The Avocado Shrimp Cocktail makes a perfect starter and the Dorado Seafood Crepes are renowned. One of the best known of Puerto Vallarta's vegetarian restaurants, this spot has made its name on a reasonably priced, all-you-can-eat vegetarian buffet operating from noon until 6:30p. Recently expanded and remodeled, its specialty items are available during dinner from 7pm to 10pm every night. Service is alert and friendly, and the atmosphere is this small restaurant is soothing. Casual dress is fine, but no beachwear is allowed.

This garden restaurant, with swings, slides and play areas for children, features fresh grilled meats. Options include grilled beef, lamb, chicken, pork ribs and sausage, all cooked on a grill over mesquite wood (which adds to the flavor). Mariachi music is always playing, which makes for a very lively atmosphere. This restaurant is a good example of old traditional Mexican service and quality. This is a reminder of what it was like in the old days when Puerto Vallarta was just a sleepy fishing village.
