Nearby Puerto Vallarta offers a variety of good shopping and places to buy authentic Mexican goods. In Puerto Vallarta there are some of the larger, big-name shops, however the smaller "plaza" style shopping is where you can find traditional and unique arts and crafts. You can also find local traders along the beaches and streets of Punta Mita, selling a variety of goods including silver. Punta Mita and the surrounding areas are also known for selling yarn paintings and beaded pieces by the local Huichol Indians.

Outside of high season, or if the stall keeper is tired of looking at a piece, even deeper discounts are possible. Look for leather goods, Mexican silver, pottery and woven items.
