Shopping
Nearby Puerto Vallarta offers a variety of good shopping and places to buy authentic Mexican goods. In Puerto Vallarta there are some of the larger, big-name shops, however the smaller "plaza" style shopping is where you can find traditional and unique arts and crafts. You can also find local traders along the beaches and streets of Punta Mita, selling a variety of goods including silver. Punta Mita and the surrounding areas are also known for selling yarn paintings and beaded pieces by the local Huichol Indians.

Puerto Vallarta has no shortage of upscale shops, but for many the real fun of shopping begins at this sprawling, two-story flea market. Vendors offer just about anything, and bargaining is all part of the game. Most of the time, expect to pay about 20 percent less than the initially stated price, but this varies. Outside of high season, or if the stall keeper is tired of looking at a piece, even deeper discounts are possible. Look for leather goods, Mexican silver, pottery and woven items. Credit card acceptance varies by vendor. |

The "E" in the name is for Estella, who drafts the artwork; and the "M" is for Mariano, who supervises production. The craftsmanship is superb, and Mariano's background in industrial design assures strong pieces, which can integrate with any style of architecture. There are also many smaller pieces available for home decoration. |
